Default Using TOAF, Android and Wifi ?

Has anyone successfully connected TOAF on an android device using the WiFi OBD plug in as advertised on eBay:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/175164947077

Or am I better buying a laptop, and using a cable as advertised on eBay:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/174768878115

The price is £19.95 each so I'd rather not buy both.

Hi Kevin.
How did you get on i thought someone would of answered your question by now, or did you get sorted with downloading Toaf, and finding the right lead ?

Hi Steve,

Never had a problem with TOAF using my (unreliable) laptop/VAG KKL 409.1 cable (pin 7/8 connnected) but TOAF Android has never worked - version 0.26 - since upgrade from 0.25... sent messages via messenger and TOAF facebook page, it seems they're busy

I use same cable with an OTG connector to connect to tablet or phone.

TOAF with Android works on my cellular phones with the compliant cables.

Apparently the last release of TOAF for Android, dated 31 March 2023 had new drivers for various Android devices, and when I'd updated to that release I could access the car's systems from my phone, using an OTG adapter and my modified (pin 7 to pin 8) VAG/USB cable.

Current version of TOAF Android is 0.0.33

Does anybody have a link to one of the cheapy VAG cables which definitely works? Some of the listings seem to have gone now.

The “TOAF” cable on eBay seems to be the same thing with the pins soldered together.

This is the one I bought - I had to solder pin 7 to pin 8 (although a bare wire/paperclip wrapped around both pins and pulled tight would achieve the same effect - make sure it touches nothing else).

That one looks like a bargain, if it works.

I’m trying to use a cable that I had for vagcom when I had a Passat about fifteen years ago. I’ve soldered pins 7 & 8 together, but haven’t managed to get it to work. I’m assuming I’ve got a problem with com ports, as I think I installed the correct drivers for it.

These cables use a variety of chipsets, some of which don't work with the Rover, even when you short 7&8.

Check the assigned COM port in Device Manager matches that in TOAF - if it doesn't, change it
