IOVOX Direct replacement help
Hello,
As I'm really sick with a brand new but fake IOVOX cd-mp3unit with the loosing of code overnight and, most of all, cd's stuck in the unit, can anyone advice a DIRECT replacement (i.e. a swap without cables modifications) of these unit that works as well with steering controls? My car is a new facelift model, without CD changer. Any advice welcome, Thank You Canio-

Any single DIN radio will fit directly into the fascia around the Iovox unit with no need to adapt it. The power cables should be ok too, as I think the Iovox uses the standard ISO plug.
You will need an adaptor for the steering wheel controls though, depending on what model you buy, possibly £40 or so. And make sure the radio you buy is steering control compatible.

I'm sure the IOVOX cd-mp3 unit is slightly larger that the standard single din HU.
I say this as I had to buy a new facia surround when I changed my IOVOX head unit for a sony one. ( I had the same problem with the IOVOX losing the code overnight - a common problem!) ATB Andy |

Maybe it is. I had the Iovox cassette player in mine. That is single DIN size. The Sony I replaced it with fits fine.

So, it seems that someone have replaced the IOVOX. Any more details concerning the Sony unit (model) and which adaptor to the steering control unit is?
Thank You,

If you replace the Iovox with an original VDO radio, then it should be a straight swap with no steering control problems.

It's a while since I did the change so some of what is below, is from memory: (Please note I have a facelift ZT-T, the prefacelift MGRs had a BMW harness that needs adapting with this). I have had two sony single din head units in my ZT-T and from memory they pluged straight into the wiring loom of the car, the loom having an ISO (standard) plug. Over the past two years I have the following Sony Head Units fitted: Sony CDX-GT300S Sony CDX-M9900 I did need to get an adapter so the steering wheel controls worked with the head unit. The adapter is a PC99 X39 and was purchased from here. I had to buy a single din facia adapter from Rimmer Bros - the one I bought retained the 'shelf' above the head unit. I believe however these are hard to get hold of. An alternative is here. When I replaced the head unit I also replaced the CD Multichanger with a Sony one - I am not sure if an adapter exists to connect the MGR multichanger to a Sony Head Unit. I hope this helps, as I say some of this is from memory and if there is anything that needs amending or added someone will be along soon. ATB Andy |
