Valve stem advice.
I am know getting a little concerned with a lot of blue smoke after starting up, I am led to believe it could be the Valve Stem Seals that are shot, I have read there is a product that might cure them from leaking by adding it to the oil. This is happening on my Diesel, any one got any ideas as approx! cost of replacing them. Rev |

You don't want to even contemplate the cost of replacing them, as to do so requires removal of the cylinder head. I suggest you get an informed opinion of what is actually causing the problem, before jumping to the wrong conclusion. Brian |

Well, on NA engines the valve stem seals are the first thought when you get the blue smoke on start-up (after being shut off for a while). It usually clears up in a few minutes. On turbos & turbo diesels the first is usually turbo seals. They can be replaced. The turbos on the M47Rs are normally very reliable and long lived. You could probably find a good used one with lots of life left pretty easily if money was a big consideration.
That's not saying that is the problem. As Brian said, get a proper opinion. Cheers, Glenn

Hi Julien. Is this a throw back to the problem you had before with blue smoke? If you find out that it is the turbo seals, there is a company in Birmingham that are experts on re engineering them.
