Default Google Chrome says machine not compatible!

New one this to me! I've always used Chrome because it runs on just about anything.

But now when I go online I get a message saying that they are about to stop supporting it on my machine, because the hardware is out of date. Its seems it needs a Pentuim 4 CPU minimum.

Can anyone recommend another browser whic will be happy on my basic machine, and which will work with Kaspersky?

I tried Chrome when it was first launched, and shortly thereafter ditched it and went back to Firefox. Worked for me on all platforms.

As for Kaspersky - never used it, but my brother always has and has had nothing but issues. Everytime I delete it from his PC, the system works - I then install Avast!. He then re-installs it (because he paid for it) and uninstalls Avast! and lo and behold.... within a week he's on the phone with "Got troubles again"..... I give up....

Another vote for Firefox, if you add in adblock plus extension it does help.

Thanks all for the replies - if the Chrome does stop then I'll try Firefox. As for the Kaspersky, I got a years free subscription from my Bank, and to be fair it has not given any problems although I always think these things slow your system somewhat.

I had used AVG previously, but couldn't het it to install second time round. I really need a new machine (this one is 12 years old) but thats not happening any time soon!

Well it pretty much is!

I hang on to it because it just never goes wrong!

I just wish there was a less bloated operating system I could find that could be installed to work with its low spec - its only got 1.5gig RAM, and a CPU with a sundial on it. Its really struggling now because the software is so outdated. But the machine just seems unburstable!

Ive deleted Chrome and installed Firefox as suggested, and it certainly seems to go online a bit easier.

If anyone has any recomendations for a simpler operating system for low spec machines, I'm all ears.

There copies of Windows XP Lite out there on the interweb, but I would make a lite version myself.

To do that, download a free software called nLite. Using this software you can customise an install of Windows XP.

I did one a few years ago and managed to get the XP install down from 700+MB to 134MB IIRC. Ran it on an ancient machine and it just went like stink. Most of the stuff that comes with XP, you will never use. SO when using nLite you just have to use some common sense to know if you will use the specific feature or not.

But also pay attention to the little infotips for each feature as some features are needed to run others and if you get rid of one, you'll end up breaking the other.

This is whata lite version of XP looks like
