In that case I have now heard of one Bob.

Anyone else?

Default Another opinion

Hi Guys,

Latest on "dangerous thing happened this morning", I have sent off the ECU to Marinabrian and hopefully he will find a fault.

I previously was in touch with 'The ECU Doctor' in Plymouth, gave him the symptoms and his reply was that "He felt it was an earthing problem and not the ECU". The ABS warning would shut the car down!?

Interesting one. When I removed the ECU it was all bone dry, no sign of any damp.

Happy days, will let you know what happens,
kindest regards John

Well the results are in, no faults shown other than glowplug relay, which is one generated by my own car

I have had John's ECM coded to my own car yesterday, and covered about 120 miles with no untoward symptoms other than a feeling of 116 deja vu.

I have this morning just flashed up T4, and there is nothing to be gleaned from his ECM, so I would have to suspect a defect in wiring, possibly in the underbonnet fusebox area.

Upon close inspection, there was absolutely no sign of any residual corrosion on the PCB, from the previous encounter with plenum flooding five years ago either..

The mystery continues.

Brian. Is there enough voltage in the abs sensor cable to drag the voltage down and interrupt the ecu? I would have thought not.

Well I've done a bit of digging Rich and you could be spot on - 2 other cases of an ABS fault causing engines to stall apart from Bob's.

Poor design that it should happen though.

Hi Brian,
You really must enjoy what you are doing, that is some test you have carried out. I can now see why you are so well recommended by the club members.
Good news, in a way, that the ECU is ok, and feel the problem would appear to be linked to the ABS in some way.

Please PM me how much I owe you Brian and I will arrange payment.

Thank a million
Kindest regards John

Since you are legally limited to 60 mph when towing, I wonder if your car has become sentient, with a conscience.

Hi Brian
Just had another thought, this has only happened within two to three miles of me leaving home!

Once several weeks ago, again about ten days ago in the same place just a mile or two from home. Then twice, one after another, no more than two miles from home last week.

Apparently prefers to stay at after three weeks in Wales

Regards John
