Default 2.5 v6 won't start/ traction control icon on

Hi my 1999 2.5 v6 conny has a strange fault the other day I started the car and the traction control warning light appeared (the one that comes on if you switch the tc off) the engine would not rev past 3000 rpm when I switched the engine off and tried to restart it it would not start after 10 minutes rest it started and ran normally . however i took it to the local garage and had it plugged in to a diagnostics computer the fault code said that the crank position sensor gave a improbable position and that engine revs were also improbable The garage changed the crank position sensor and now the car won't start and the traction control icon is back on they refitted the old sensor but still same fault. Any help would be very much appriceated as this has stumped everybody.

PS plenums are clear
