Default Engine management light-ON AGAIN!!

Hi all,

Well after my little trip to see Stevemac and him resetting my engine management light, it's now back on again. So all that praying and touching wood doesn't help after all.

I am running the Synergy 2 box and have the mafam connected. The car has done approximately 80 miles since having the light extinguished, but when I started her up this morning, sure enough the light stayed on along with a quick flash of the Check Engine message.

So, anyone any suggestions? When Steve plugged in his code reader it showed no stored faults. Car has done 100k and from service history it seems the MAF was replaced August 2007.

Sure I have read on here that some after market cats have caused this?

Had your cat changed recently?

No mate. To be honest the light first came on when I fitted the Synergy 2 some weeks ago. But I'm not insinuating its the synergy causing the problem cos could just as well be a coincidence. The car is running beautifully with no loss of performance or extra noise or anything.

OK, been monitoring the car for last couple of days and have noticed that the car is producing a lot more black smoke than previously ( synergy box on and off ) and also the mpg has dropped by about 3 mpg.

Any ideas if this might indicate something wrong?
