Will the air bags go off/system go faulty?
Hi all. After all the rain, car smelt a bit damp so had a feel around and yep....n/s carpets wet. A previous owner has rounded off the torx bolts on drivers seat so could only remove passenger seat and centre console to get to carpet. Had to make some discreet cuts to be able to remove n/s half of carpet to dry out. That side of things, whilst not ideal, allows me to get the carpet dry but...... if I connect the battery back up so I can use the car in the mean time, without the n/s/f seat fitted, what damage if any will I cause to the airbag system? and will it be okay to drive (for a limited time) like that until everything fitted back?
Thanks all for your time and any help appreciated. |

OK to drive, but I believe all the air bags and seat belt tensioner systems will be deactivated until the circuits are re-made. The warning icon will also show up.

Thanks for that. If the warning icon comes on due to 'fault' in circuit, will it go off when the seat is refitted or will I have to take it to a garage to have the fault cleared? |

The airbag light "should" go out when everything is reconnected.

Thanks for replies. Carpet removed and drying out ( bit difficult as the rain has not been far away and no room indoors to dry it), and all drain tubes rodded and cut off at an angle.
Chose to refit the seat whilst carpet removed, so can still use car without taking a chance on triggering the airbag fault system. All OK so far. |

wet carpets on n/s
Beware this could be a major problem. The water that gets to nearside foot well, comes in through the heater when the plenum is blocked. Check pollen filter is it two tone coloured with s tide mark?
In my case water excessive water in the n/s front foot well killed the airbag lh crash sensor and killed the airbag ECU. (£50 2nd hand) In the plenum water level can rise to a level to kill engine ECU. I would advise plenum unblock as a priority. |
