HeadGasket quote!

ive got a 2000 1.8 rover 75, the head gasket has gone. Creamy engine oil.
Ive been quoted 250 for the headgasket and a further 100 for the timing belt, not to pricey then!

Is it usual for the heating system not to work in the car when the head gasket goes, as its just blowing cold air in the cockpit?

Sounds like a good quote but does it include all the extra bits needed like antifreeze, oil, oil filter, cooling system flush etc?

It is usual for the heater to blow cold if the head gasket goes as it looses the water, also make sure they fit the new MLS head gasket and DO NOT SKIM the head!

Skim the head if necessary. Our experience is that nearly every head needs some skimming. The company that we use have a high tech lapping machine, so they take off the absolute minimum required.

If the garage doing the repair has not done a HGF repair using a Land Rover gasket before, don't let them use this kit. If the head repair is done correctly, we believe that there is benefit to using the Land Rover kit.

got the car back today, job done all for 350 quid, very happy with that.

just one problem now the `code` is flashing on the stereo and i dont have it!!!!

Oh and another problem, the mechanic noticed that the fan which sits between the front grill and radiator was missing....it must have spun of at some point.....

You shouldn't be using the car with no Fan fitted at the front or you will end up needing another Head Gasket pretty quickly IMHO.
Get it sorted fast.

it may have been the cause of the origional hgf. overheated?

On an 8 year old 75, the best option is to fit a complete new motor and fan system. These are available from Rover spares outlets, eBay or from fellow member Jules. Contact him for a good deal. As noted by JDC, running a 1.8 engine without the fan is virtually guaranteed to blow the head gasket. Presumably that's why you're at this point anyway.
