The post 88 ones were worse, something to do with a change of steel.
I have an 87 one which is off the road at present but certainly not rotten

I had a very late 92 one which was scrapped in 98 due to excessive corrosion

Yep that's how I remember the Montego and Maestro. The baby of the family wasn't much better. The amount of welding I did on a couple of those on inner and outer sills after what was only a few years is ridiculous.

Late 90's Mercedes cars were even worse and their Sprinter van's appear to rust almost from new!

It’s not a competition on who sold the rusty old sheds as Austin Rover would win it apart from Fiat in the UK. Total rust boxes I worked at Austin Rover and at the test track at Gaydon I know what extent the engineers did to try rid the brand of the reputation. The new Rover 200 series and 400 series were a thousand times better.
An Escort from the 1970s is worth a lot more than a Allegro etc.
