We had a holiday in France a few years ago. I was surprised how much of my school French came back to me.

I was way above that level, "O" level French . . . . which I failed dismally but some of it obviously stuck.

You think that's bad, I did German as well and the only phrase that stuck in my mind (God knows why) is: "Das spiegelei ist in der pfanne" . . . . the fried egg is in the pan. You struggle to get that into an everyday conversation.
