The Restaurant

It was a very smart restaurant. The food was all totally fresh - indeed, the seafood was displayed, alive, in a tank for customers to choose for themselves.

One day, a customer decided he was going to have some fried squid. The waiter took him over to the tank, and there was a very juicy looking, bright green squid. "I'll have that one!"

The waiter grabbed a net, collected the squid, and took it through to Gervais, the chef, to prepare it.

Gervais put the squid on the chopping block, but as he looked down he noticed that it had a cute little mustache and beautiful big brown eyes. The squid was looking back at him with such a mild, gentle expression that Gervais could not bring himself to kill the little creature.

He called over to Hans, the dishwasher.

"Hans, come over here and kill this squid so I can cook it."

Hans came over, picked up the knife, but he was also moved by the gentle, pleading expression on the squid's face.

They called the waiter back into the kitchen, and told him that they would not cook the squid.

He went back into the restaurant, and spoke to the customer.

"I'm sorry sir, but squid is off the menu for today."

"What! Why?"

"Sir, it seems that ...

"Hans that do dishes can be soft as Gervais, with mild green hairy lipped squid."

(I bet you sang that, didn't you?)
