Default New car: ZT 190+

Hi all - a newbie here with news that I finally tracked down the car I wanted.

I'd been looking for a couple of months for a 190+ - ideally in Firefrost, but not especially fussed. I was happy to spend up front as I didn't want a project, but I wanted something that was going to keep me interested.

I'd seen a few and decided I wanted pre-facelift, but otherwise it was open season!

In the end, I settled on this:

A 51 plate 190+ which overall, I'm pretty pleased with!

Now, you'll notice I said that I didn't want a project.

I failed on that count

Current snag list:

No handbrake (doesn't hold on even the most gentle of gradients)
Dodgy bonnet pull (only locks on one lock, and only just)
Drivers seat doesn't slide back and forth easily (suspect a cable has stretched)
No sign of plenum mod
Clunk and vibration which sounds like a badly hung exhaust
And additional clunk which sounds like an engine mount
Mirror adjuster knackered - only 'down' works
ABS light on - suspect front o/s, but will need to confirm

That'll do for now! I'll probably start a new thread for each of these eventually

Nice looking car most of those faults are easily fixed, handbrake needs a new compensator (search member Arctic) mirror switch just needs dismantling & cleaning, bonnet pull, you need to clean & lubricate the catches in the slam panel, slacken the bolts either side of the holes slightly & do the cable jointer mod.

I've started making my way through the ridiculously helpful 'how-to' guides and absorbing a huge quantity of information (eg handbrake compensator, bonnet pull splitter), so hopefully I can keep the stupid questions to a minimum.

Looking forward to getting involved in this forum - I've been active on the Rover 800 forum for nearly 10 years (same username) and made some great friends and contacts, so here's to the same here.

Nice car, as Suzublu has said, quite easy problems to fix. Trophy blue really suits the ZT's.
Check all the bolts holding the seat to the floor are tight as i had this problem with the seat being hard to move and one of the bolts has worked slightly loose, making it harder for the runners to move

Oh we like stupid questions Adrian, particularly when they are easy to answer!

As another relatively new ZT owner there are two things I suggest you must look at..
  1. open your wallet NOW and remember what it looked like with money in it
  2. Adjust your rear view mirror - so every time your on a clear bit of road and get your foot down a bit you can see the smile on your face
They are great driving cars - but they do try our patience

Dear Mercedade

I am writing in response to your cry for help. I know you didn't use such words and you know that you are not fooling anyone. Face up to it, you were lured in and now hooked. Just like I was five months ago

There is no cure, but with time, money and patience you will stop questioning your sanity. And every time you go a week or two without seeing another ZT/ZTT on the roads you will get a wonderful smug feeling for buying yours and as you listen to the burble of your V6.....

It doesn't have to be a V6 to have that smug feeling they are all special in their own way
They say the first stage of kicking an addiction is to admit it and talk about it, i guess that most seem to have been here a while just shows its an addiction that's hard to kick ....
