Default Draper 53016 1200W Angle Polisher

Thinking of getting a machine polisher tomorrow. Is this any good? Seems a reasonable price and powerful motor.

Appreciate any advice

hmm found a review of a very similar model and says it's quite heavy at 4Kg.

Some recommend this Silverline. Anyone any experience of them?

I notice it's rotary and not dual action though, does that mean it's not the best for a machine newbie?

Steve

The silverline one is ok, but cable is quite short, had mine for about four year and works ok, but a word of warning, take car when using a rotary polisher, and make sure that if using a cutting compound that you keep the surface damp, and keep it moving, don't stay in one place as you will burn the paint, you are much safer using a DAS

This is a very good model and safer to use

but if you are on a budget, then something like this would be better than a rotary

I havent used any other polisher, however I have read that as a beginner it is advised to use a DA, as they are more forgiving. I found THIS one,

I couldnt find many reviews of it, but the ones I did find at the time, seemed to concur with what I suspected, in that it was the same as the Duren/Kestrel DAS 6. I cannot verify if this is accurate though, but I can say it does get tiring when doing the roof. I imagine all of them would anyway. I would advise starting at the roof for this reason. It vibrates, its noisy, but then I imagine all of them are to some degree lol. It is well put together, and seems well made, I am certainly happy with the quality and ability.

Likewise for PADS, I found a chinese supplier that sold them for a fraction of the price of the 'genuine' hex logic. Their feel, to me, is identical to the 'GENUINE' ones. (although I only compared it to one lol). The CCS ones seem to be slightly better, in that they didnt clog up so much.

Below is a picture of my sister's bonnet after one pass with the CCS pads and G3 compound. The bonnet looked like it had no lacquer on it at all. With the left being done first, and the right not.

VIDEO HERE (it is Facebook, but should play.

The polisher didnt come with a case, although I bought a cheap one in Lidl that does the job perfectly (the supplier in the link above did offer one for £7 previously though)

I also bought different sized backing plates because the pad that comes with it is huge and unwieldy. As well as one of THESE to go along with THESE small pads.

I also got THESE whilst I was on a spending spree at the time, but havent used them (for fog light surrounds etc)

Gone for the DAS Pro. Seems too have universal good reviews.

I'll be getting some of those pads too.

Thanks Stuart & Alan

You have picked a good machine, i have a das, not the pro and its great. DA polisher is better if your new to polishing. I have used a rotary and i much prefer the DA. Takes longer but i prefer it.

Whilst I was researching my polisher, I stumbled across Slim's Detailing website. They seem to be very good on price, and certainly good on delivery. At the time, until I came across the Katsu one, I was going to get the Duren one from them. (If they had that package linked to, I would have!)
