But it would have to have been something simple...

Not all VAG cables work properly. I struggled for ages with one of the black ones, then in desperation got a blue one, and all was fine. So that may have been it. Only other thing I can think is making sure the COM Port in Device Manager matches the one in Toaf

@Vitesse recommends this one (even though it's not blue ) and he generally knows about such things...

Thanks for the mention, yep, like you I just got fed-up with non-working cables, blue, black it was always a lottery and I'd rather pay a few more pennies for one which worked as it should.

If you want a tech solution from a Mac user forget about strange Windows things like device managers, just keep plugging it into different ports until you find the one that works and mark it with a crayon

Keep well

You can sort the vast majority of ABS faults with a voltmeter.

I've texted Brian but no reply so I guess he's on Holiday? Will try texting him again next week.
I disassembled the NS rear brake yesterday morning and blew compressed air into and around the sensor (I don't have a large enough socket to remove the hub). Tried to do the same with the OS rear this morning and broke a brake pad. Thankfully one of the neighbours was going into Hexham and bought a new set of pads. Will blow compressed air at the sensor tomorrow morning. Speedo works so it's not drivers side front. If it's the passenger side front sensor it's so encased in rust that I fear it'll have to be drilled out, not something I can do.

Thankfully I don't 'need' to drive the car (I only go out once a week for shopping), but once the MOT expires, driving to Brian's will set off the ANPR cameras I fear.

I've read the thread about voltage readings but I can't undo any of the connectors, locked solid and am afraid of breaking them if I try to force them. T4 would be best then buy the right part and then get the local garage to do it and then do the MOT.

I think Brian is the only person around Northumberland / Newcastle with a T4? Local garage have tried previously with their computer but apart from resetting engine warning light, no coms.

I've got TOAF but 'it'll only communicate with the engine module, it doesn't register any other modules sadly. No idea why, tried different computers and have the correct modded VAG-COM cable. Crazy.

Fingers crossed that blowing air at the sensor tomorrow will fix the problem. . . .

Ali.
Hi Ali.
Brian is around but busy, i was talking to him on Friday, so keep trying he may get back to you, he should pinpoint for right away.

Lots of dust blown out of the rear brakes but still no joy.

I've got the blue one recommended a few years ago. Have now bought this black one, fingers crossed.

I've been trying for years to get it to recognise the other modules. Computers I'm good at, com ports baud speed, admin privileges, compatibility mode etc etc all tried. If you do remember I'd be very interested to hear how you fixed it.

Brian has just returned my text, Yay seeing him tomorrow evening

Sadly, for me, memory is thing of the past. At least I think it was.

You did install the drivers OK? You should have these:

Seem to remember Brian isn't a fan of TOAF, so pretend you've never heard of it tell him I said hello

Hi Ali.
Your worries are now over, soon you will know the problem and can get it dealt with remind Brian you have plugged TOAF into your car, before he hooks up his T4 as in the past it as caused him lots of grief.

If my memory serves me correctly (which it doesn't always do) I don't think Toaf was responsible for the T4 flying but rather someone had fiddled about with the car's OBD socket.

Keep well

Hi Mike.
Yes that is correct, the person had i think soldered or joined the wiring in the OBD, i was just pointing out to remind Brian as he likes to know if TOAF as been connected he can then ask if anything else as been done to the port etc

Had a wonderful couple of hours with Brian who is as caring and selfless as always. Thorough T4 session and driving test. Front passenger side sensor U/S. Have ordered a new one from DMGRS.

Thanks for all your help.
Ali.
