I agree it as not failed completely, but it as some kind of fault, if i remember right some of those Kenlow fans have there own relays inline with the wiring.

Jules would be your best man to contact as he used to fit these to our cars way back about 10 years ago.

Can you get up any photos, can you see any relays apart from the original ones for the car.

Steve, An Update.....

I remove the Kenlow Fan again and checked the wiring and it appears that it is wired up the same as the original fan.. So I located two fan units (as in borrowed them) Neither of the motors worked even with a direct feed to them.

So the next thing I did was swap out the PCB complete with the relays that are inside from the two speed fan and inserted it into the box that is fitted with the Kenlow fan..

Connected it all back up and we now have a fully working cooling fan that operates as it should. No prolonged running before it shuts off, and does not come on when the ignition is switched on, And only comes on when the AC is operated.

So thankfully it all appears good.

Thanks for your help on this and the link to the Kenlow Fan page.

John

Well that was short lived, it was working OK, But now I have put it all back together it has reverted back to what it was doing before. So it is back to square one. I will take it apart again and as I remove each part, IE bumper, lights and things like that I will try it and see if it works as a process of elimination,, see what happens

It sounds like you may have part of the loom chaffing, trapped or similar.

If your fan is earth switched, as I believe they all were, as standard, then you have a short to earth.

I'm currently researching a similar problem, on a non standard fan that's been previously installed.

Sorry for jumping in, but I've been following this thread.

Mike

Hi Mike.
No need to be sorry the more the merrier, and several heads are better than one, personally i would not be putting the Kenlow fan back on, as it will cause trouble further down the road, but i think you could be right, if the fan was running ok until the front was put back on, wiring fault somewhere.

Yes, logic says wiring fault like a pinched wire that may be grounding, BUT, if so why does the fan stop by itself after 10-15 seconds after power is off?

Is it coming on with the key on but without A/C again?

Default Cooling Fan

Well it gets even stranger,
Went to the car this afternoon, Removed the front bumper and disconnected the ,indicators, Fog lamp loom.

Turned the ignition on silence, No fan running, Put the AC on fan starts up turn AC off, fan stops Mmm???, re-connecting the light loom, and the operation is as it should be...

Put the bumper back on and it is all working as it should..

I then disconnected the battery for an hour reconnected it and all is working OK

So you tell me whats going on.

OH and while I was under the car re fitting the front of the under tray I see a skull and a set of teeth looking at me, Dug it out and it was a dead cat well a kitten wedged between the under tray and the gear box.

How long it had been there and how far it had travelled I do not have a clue

Well first of all, I daren't read this out to Jan (cat lover extraordinaire)

Secondly, there was a thread quite recently, where the fan was running due to water in a side or head light connection. I can't remember the full detail.

Regards

Mike
