Jatco 2/4 duty solenoid repair !?
Hi all,
Anyone tried to repair their 2/4 duty solenoid by soldering the broken earth connection as this guy are doing in this video?: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6qP4GHWEYWw I am suspecting that mine are on its way out due to harsh changes now and then. |

I haven't tried it, but it looks like a cheap fix.
I will certainly try it if my gearbox starts playing up. |

Sonic zs (if I recall correctly) also did the repair, but after a short period of time it failed. The first image with 3.43, would.have worked better as a video. The resistance constantly fell to 0 in its failed state. The second image, shows a stable 3.2. I can only assume.it to be serviceable based upon the test and the YouTube video, however, with atf flowing around, and real.world environment, this may prove to be an incorrect assumption lol. OK. Thanks for your feedback.
Think the most reasonable solution would be to order a new unit anyway in an attempt to resolve my shifting issues. I measured the solenoids an all was within. I only get the issues with hard shifts now and then when the box has warmed up, especially when going into 2nd on upshifts. ATF level is OK, but has not changed ATF for a while. |

Thats the one!
But after reading another post elsewhere on the same subject (a few years prior to mine - which I was not aware of, I did search at the time), I would be reluctant to repair unless I was desperate. Purely on risk aversion. Aside from the cost of a 2nd amount of atf, there is a second risk of introduction of dirt ingress or seal failure if it was to fail soon after.

I did have a go at this yesterday out of interest - as you can imagine I have quite a pile of bits and pieces, one of which is a JF506E with a duff 2/4 Brake Duty Solenoid.
It seems to work well enough after repair - I've got a pulse generator and driver pack I can use here to switch it on and off repeatedly to see how it fares. I'll give that a go when I have more time, but for a 'get out of trouble' fix in a future time when they're not as readily available I can see the merit. The only faff is the gearbox needing to be drained for the work; when you factor in the time for this and re-sealing the front plate it does make a little less sense. Still, a good excuse to drag the testing gear out and spend some time with mucky paws - I'll let you know if it stands up to a bit of testing.

I decided to go for a new solenoid rather than trying a repair. Ordered one from the US on the bay.... As mentioned, I do not want to do this operation twice in attempt to to fix it cheap Just crossing my fingers that this solenoid is the culprit in my case. |

I wonder if the replacement solenoids have been redesigned, as there is clearly an issue with them. Or are the manufacturers happy to keep selling replacements with the same problem?
