Loud clunking over bumps rear offside

Need some help trying to locate loud clunk on rear suspension.
My tourer has had completely new rear suspension, subframe, upper and lower arms, coil springs, dampers, anti roll bar bushes and links, brake back plates, handbrake shoes and springs.
The problem I have now is a loud knock on the offside when going over bad roads. I have had everything off this morning and checked for any signs of damage to arms or bushes etc but can find nothing. Mot passed 2 weeks ago with no problems, only thing tester noticed was that the rear bushes on the front suspension were worn and suggested getting them replaced.
My question is can the noise from the front worn bushes transmit through the car and give a false impression that the problem is at the rear. Only other thing would be the rear trailing arm bushes at the toe in brackets possibly past their best.
Anybody else had experience of changing this Bush or am I barking up the wrong tree.

Hi,after I rebuilt my subframe I too developed a knock,turned out the rear section of the exhaust was too near the subframe,I just loosened it and twisted it to get a few more mm gap.Worth checking in case it's the same.Regards Ry...

Checked exhaust and nowhere near subframe.

Check the upper damper nuts are fully tight. And I wouldn't rule out the rear drop links, I had one fail after a week.

When you say rear drop links I assume you mean anti roll bar links. These are new and again have been checked, but thanks for offering advice. Top strut mounts are all tight.

I had a light knock/rattle from mine when i first got it. This turned out to be the lower bush/dampener for one of the rear shocks (round bit that the lower bolt goes through for the shock). It was tight but just not tight enough, a nip up with a breaker bar solved it.

Although now i have a thought that the tourer might not even have these??


Other than that any heatshields loose or can you recreate the sound buy rocking the car about by hand?

Sounds daft, but were the big saucer washers on the bottom damper bolt refitted? Without them the dampers will move around and you'll get a load of thumping. Same thing happens if the same bottom bolt is overtightened, giving the damper some lateral movement. It does tend to get tightened up more than it really needs, and in my case someone really went to town on the o/s/r making it noticeably longer than the other side.

Ok just an update. Spoke to DMGRS this morning and they think it is the top mount on the damper. Apparently they had a bad batch where the rubber failed. They are sending out replacement parts so will update post when the new ones are fitted. Just a quick question how do you tighten the nut on the top of the dampers

22nm/16 lbs. Don’t overtighten.

Just a quick update on the loud clunk.
Removed rear damper and found the top mount completely shot.
DMGRS did confirm a bad batch of top mount rubbers so their diagnosis was spot on.
See photos of damaged one and new one. Have replaced o/s one and am now a happy bunny with nice smooth ride . Will replace n/s when necessary.
Just to mention this mount had only covered 2000 miles.
