Default Tyres

Had 4 new tyres fitted a few weeks back. This afternoon I had the wheels off to do the usual cleaning job on wheel backs and arches and, when refitting the front wheel, I noticed something odd:

Can't believe I didn't spot it sooner .

Fair play to the tyre fitters though. I sent them a pic via e-mail and they got in touch via 'phone within 30 mins to arrange a visit to sort it. They offered tomorrow, but as I'm out all day at the NEC it's been arranged for next Tuesday.

On most people's cars they'd have got away with that ! I'll have to go and look at mine now

I didn't notice it myself for 2 months! Don't know what difference it really makes, as I haven't noticed anything amiss when driving - even in a heavy downpour on the M40 a few weeks ago all seemed fine .

I'm guessing it's something to do with the tread pattern and how it disperses water though so needs sorting. Plus, of course, now I've noticed it, it really irritates .

Brilliant, thankyou .

Interesting to read that it's a fail at MOT time. In view of that, it's probably wise to avoid driving her until Tuesday when it's sorted (even though the article claims it's not dangerous).

The first thing I do when I have new tyres is check them.
1. Tyres pressures. I’ve had some as high as 38psi and had to let air out.
2. Correct size and and all 4 the same. You never know!!!
3. After a recent experience I check the date code too. One tyre was from 2015 so already 3 years old so I complained.
If I’m paying for new kit at retail prices I expect it to be right.
Just imagine the consequences if that tyre of yours contributed to some kind of accident? Insurance would be all over the fitters as well as anyone else seen as “to blame”.

Believe it or not, right after fitting I checked tyre pressures, wheel bolt torque, tyre make & model, and DOT codes. Never even occurred to me that they could be fitted back to front! Just shows, you can never be too careful.

You can have similar problems with rotational tyres, biggest problem with these is you can't swap them from side to side, at least with asymmetric tyres you can fit them in any position as the outside is always the outside.
