I don't get it why would a manufacturer release something with software that ended development in July 2007.

I suppose car manufactures have been building custom interfaces on the WinCE automotive platform for years, even the Blackberry's QNX OS. I think Ford recently dropped WinCE in favour of Blackberry for their car entertainment, all due to saving money. But many car manufactures still use Microsoft for their OS, I dont think the operating system will ever die, just improved upon.

Many new cars still use these platforms today with large screens built into the dashboards some using the car manufactures specific firmware. Some car systems can work with Apple and Google CarPlay and Android Auto with ones smartphone connected running apps on to the already built in car stereo.

Google android is obviously the future for built-in car entertainment, either Pure android or a custom interface OS, as its an open-source platform and cheaper for the car manufacture.

... and Nissan.

BMW want to put Cortana in their cars, Volvo using Skyp and Toyota using Azure cloud services.

Car technology has moved on from just the car stereo, we now have complete computerised dashboards, assisted parking, assisted driving and self driven vehicles all needing software and a OS to work.

The question is... who will be the biggest contender, Microsoft, Google, Apple and the like, they all want a piece of the pie.

Sorry to go a bit off topic, but is this not similar to VHS v Betamax as we had in the '80s? Guess who bought Betamax, but had the last laugh as I sold my player on Ebay a few years ago for £150 and to another purchaser some of my TV recording tapes for £50, whereas my son who had similar for VHS had to chuck his in the skip as they were worthless?!

How long is this unit guaranteed for?

100% DAB radio integrated into the head unit ?

Will this unit fit direct in place of my existing Navall Star. Do I need to purchase any additional harness? To fit Facelift saloon, non satnav or Harman Kardon. Already have DAB external aerial.

Fully compatible with an iPhone?
