There's a nice silver 12 reg 1.8 MG6 for £7,995 at the local dealers and I'm test driving their demonstrator tomorrow.

Keep hearing about issues, but these are quite minor like the coolant level sesnor failing....

Might just buy one

I took the plunge in July this year and purchased a lovely metallic grey MG6 TSE (11 months old).

Due to my company car allowance no longer supporting cars over 7 years old I had to ‘retire’ my MG ZT from long distance driving. I did mange to get a few extra years of company service though with the ZT as it’s coming up to 11 years old this November.

I got the 6 as it had lots to offer and the remainder 2 years manufactures warranty, 2 years AA cover, plus the price of these cars are great value.

I done over 5500 miles so far without a single problem – no computer glitches or sensor problems – it drives really well and with the superb leather seats it’s really comfy on long motorway trips which I do a lot of. Yes it does have some things I don’t like; some (not all) plastics are lower quality than the ZT, ride height is higher (I felt like falling out of the car when getting out at first!) – but you get used to that.

Although the TSE has lots of kit, the one thing it doesn’t have that I find useful on my ZT is a ‘low washer reserve’ warning. You get a warning for just about everything else!

All cars have areas some people don’t like. Overall though, personally I’m really happy with the 6 and have the best of both worlds as I still drive the ZT (or I will when I get the damn rear disc/drum fixed arrgh).

I disagree. I had a Maestro 2.0 efi. It was a fantastic car - multipoint electronic fuel injection and a good old O series (Same block as the B series) loads of torque, great handling. I loved it.

But I was miffed when I contacted the MG owners club who snubbed anything that was not an MGB or midget etc.

Very closed minded in my opinion - progresss happens.

The MGF is also a great little car, considering the tight budgets for development.

The MG-ZT - thats a proper sports tourer too, isn't it... and built at longbrige - very much worthy of the MG badge IMO

Default Automatic

i cannot understand why there have been no automatics?
It excludes us from buying either an MG6 or an MG3

My father (sadly no longer with us) said that they stopped building "proper" cars when box sections replaced chassis! I wonder how many "boxes" will be at "classic" shows of the future? I remember watching the rebuilds of Routemaster buses and wondered if they would ever end!

All well and good saying that but can you buy a Rover 75 new now?

Did you buy your car new?
