Problem sorted. I like it when a plan comes together!

As for the sealer, why don't you ask the previous owner. It would be nice to know what he has done, or attempted.

I doubt he has removed the butterflies, but who knows.

If you have a picture of the manifold.?

I seem to remember some sort of sealant on mine, from original, but I can't really remember. It was not a bodge job though.

I didnt think to take a pic of it whilst it was off sadly. Ill see if i can get a pic of part of it tomorrow when light.
The bottom panel has definitely been cut and re sealed though.

Just another indication that a previous owner tinkered with the manifold....
The dash lights are blue so Im assuming he or she also changed these.

This is correct on the MK2 as they did have blue blacklighing.

Yes I thought that might be the case but this one is labelled as a mk.3
