The ECU switches both cooling fan relays off if the temp. sensor registers
a temperature of 98°C or lower.

1.8 Engine Stopped:
Above 112°C = High speed (Heat soak/engine off only)
The cooling fan motor is now able to operate at high speed until the temp.
sensor registers a temperature of below 112

No. Your slow speed has failed. What you have is the classic high speed (emergency) pulsing.

TC
Do you have the same information for the CDT, please?

Cheers.

Default MG Rover fan data

Yes, thanks Dave. There is no specific data given for the 1.8 Turbo, so here are MG Rover's figures for the 1.8 normally aspirated:

Slow speed: on at 104, off at 98.
Fast speed: on at 112, off at 106 (engine running).
When the engine stops, for 300 seconds before the ECU powers down the fan will run at high speed if the coolant is above 108 degrees. It will turn off at 104 degrees, and run for a maximum of 5 minutes.

According to MG Rover this is incorrect. It would be great if T-Cut could verify this by experiment with his own car.

MG Rover data for the diesel with 3 speed fan system (no data is given for the 2 speed resistor system):

Slow speed: on at 100, off at 98.
Medium speed: on at 106, off at 102.
Fast speed: on at 112, off at 110. Another section of the manual gives the 'on' temperature as 119! I assume this is a misprint.

There is no mention of any fan operation when the diesel engine is stopped.

Simon.

As I made clear, the figures quoted are from the Forum archive, posted by Jules I believe. I suggest you contact him for the correct data.

Sorry to hear that you're unable to help on this occasion TC, despite having a 1.8 yourself.

Simon.
