Replacing KV6 Thermostat - (Keyhole Method)

Right! I've got the hoses off and removed the 10mm bolt.

But I can't seem to pull the housing free

Add 2 x 5mm of rubber and you are looking at about 40 to 42mm for the bigger clips and about 28 to 30mm for the small. So get clips that can span this comfortably.
I would however also replace the inlet manifold gaskets. I can almost guarantee they are leaking!

When you say the inlet manifold leaking , do you mean air leak?

Or does coolant flow through it for some strange reason?

Coolant. From the coolant passages in the corners to the inlet valves in the corners. It is a perfect design for problems.
High pressure on the one side (water) vacuum on the other (inlet valves) and a water absorbent gasket material.

That sounds a terribly bad design to me.

If it WAS leaking from the manifold gaskets, what would it look like? Any obvious signs?

Search and you shall find.
Often little signs, apart from mayo under oil filler cap and hesitation on start. Outer spark plugs might have whitish deposit.

Also. . What is the perpose of those 2 plastic clips either end of the long straight pipe?

Do I need to swap them over to the new metal stright pipe?

Cheers! So it wouldn't be leaking from the inlet manifold down into the V or the engine then?

I've never had any problem with the inlet manifold gaskets on my engine. When removing the manifolds I always renew them using a genuine MGR part and I use a torque wrench on the fixing screws.

When moved fully outwards to make close contact with the water pump and thermostat housings, they prevent lateral movement of the straight pipe making the whole assembly extremely rigid.

As Kaiser's parts are heavier and inherently more rigid than MGR's plastic, the clips may not be necessary, but they wouldn't do any harm.

Now I just need to figure out how to remove them from the original plastic pipe?

Any ideas? Is there a method to getting them off?

If i try too hard I'm afraid I might snap them
