Just been out and changed the gas bonnet struts, the old ones had reached the point where they could no longer hold the bonnet up for longer than about a minute.

The interesting thing I noticed after fitting the new struts is how easy it has become to pull the bonnet release catch. The new struts have made the bonnet catch's life so much easier. Is this why so many cars have suffered with the dreaded bonnet release breaking ?????

Interesting point. I’ve had bonnet opening problems recently, and my struts hold it up, but are weak. I may get around to changing them then. Btw are you on commission with DMGS?

I didn't buy them from DMGS.

That was meant to be a joke btw. Thanks for the post I will change mine. I’ve seen them on the website at SGS and DMGRS for the same price. I wonder which is better, or whether that’s are the same?

Hi Mike,

Whoever you buy from it's important that the rating in Newtons is exactly the same as that printed on the original Stabilus parts.

You can even buy a genuine Stabilus replacement from agent F. A. Parkes in Leigh.

Or use adjustable ones - I got a pair going spare from work and adjusted them to suit.

I have replaced mine with products from SGS. I bought a higher rated one for the Tourer boot floor as I have a mat on thr floor and the original was too low rated.

I got mine from SGS, slightly cheaper, I'm a Yorkshire man lol

My main concern with the old ones, What if they drop the bonnet on the MOT tester? It wouldn't end well
