All I will say is that bring car to me and using my mg rover tools i will fit the belts and when done they will align perfectly

You appear to be changing your story a bit here you are saying the timing marks dont line up on your car then you are saying they do have you ever done this job yourself? I have done loads as I'm sure other members will confirm and I can assure you if done correctly the Mark's do line up

No Dave, my "story" hasn't changed, it remains exactly as I replied to Tim, the OP.

Before work starts, the notches are slightly misaligned if the flywheel/drive plate locking pin remains inserted. Remove the pin and turn the engine very slightly to achieve alignment.

After belt replacement of course the notches align. You wouldn't be able to use the removal tool unless they did.

As you seem to be in some doubt that I have renewed my own cambelts, please refer to my lengthy thread from April 2018. I'm surprised that you've missed it!

All I can be bothered to say the time spent going on about it I'm sure it would be quicker to drive the car to me and I will do it with correct tools and then drive it home or if the OP is nearer you then you could go and help him time it up, I would lend out the correct tools if required

Dave, have a cigar! The tool is complete [redacted]. Now, you'd have thought that having two tool sets to hand and their both being the same would indicate that they were correct.

Wrong. Just got my paws on the DMGRS loaner set and the adaptors for the 2.5 are very different. The pins are pretty much equidistant from the jaws.

With that in place, the marks line up, as I would expect.

Beware people. There are a lot of tool sets on offer that appear to have 190 adaptors amusingly stamped "Not 190" and you will bin a 2.5 using them.

If NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD- a tooth out, it will still run, it just throws up the engine management light.

Tee Cee, the tool you show in original post is not correct for the 2.5 (not 190) engine. I have some bitter experience here which you can see in my "Timing tools mystery" post. I too had a kit labelled as yours. Eventually I purchased a correct kit from Laser (4577).
On the 2.5 (not 190) the pegs on the horseshoes should be equidistant from the ends of the horseshoes.
I believe the one you posted at the top of this post may be, despite it's labeling, for the 190 version. On the 2.0 the right peg is higher when viewed with the horseshoe tips at the bottom.
