Default Worn Brakes

I have just been and had two new tyres (Khumo £200 the pair)

The fitter tells me my brakes are going to need doing shortly. Presumably the whole point of having a sensor is to tell you when they need replacing?

I'm on 58,000. Is that reasonable for a set of front pads and discs. My previous two cars were sold at 90,000 and were still on their originals but they weren't as big and heavy as the ZT

How long is a piece of string?
Some people get 10,000 miles from a set, others will get 50,000.
Works a bit like tyres.

Sensors if fitted properly (see other thread) will tell you when the pads need changing but not when to do the disks. For that read the minimum thickness marked on the disk and measure them, change when your driving style has worn them out

The ones on my 260 lasted 42,000 miles those on my 190 60,000 miles other owners have needed to change them after 25,000 miles

The local dealer told me mine wanted doing at a service around 50,000.
I waited until the warning lamp came on which was around 4 months and 4000miles later. While waiting for the warning lamp I got hold of the discs and pads via e-bay at a lot less than the over the shelf prices.

I think it's time to visit ebay. Thickness is 20.25 as against a recommended minimum of 19mm.

Something else to add to the 60,000 mile service checklist
