Very nice car, and looks very new. Not many in this country I never see a left hind drive.

I still have a 1980 Rover V8S inherited from my father. Genuine 29,000 on the clock, but not well screwed together. He moved on to a Jaguar Sovereign 4.2 and the Rover got ignored. I have never bonded with it, although it was pretty fast in the day and economical (26mpg on a run). Really ought to move it on!

I didn't like them back in the day & stuck with my P5's & 6's. In the way of things they look much more appealing to me now.

Back in the 70s I had both the 2.6 straight six, and the Vanden Plas 3.5 V8. The V8 was a much better car all round. Took both touring on the continent and the 3.5 was more economical. Wish I still had it now.

The V8 were great mile munchers, I was lucky enough to have a mate many years ago who had one of the last made, I was due to go on Holiday to Germany and he said '' why dont you take the Rover''. I didnt need asking twice. Had a great 2 weeks and put 1800 miles on it. Sadly a couple of months later it was written off because of a rear end shunt.
The problem was the early ones were badly made and had big reliabilaty problems. Poor quality paint, dodgy electrics and it took a lot of getting back. |

I had a 1972 P6 3500S in paprika which i ran for a while. Having too many cars i gave it away to two friends to do some realtively minor bodywork and in doing so they accidentally set fire to it and it was no more!
Also i ran for a few years a 1971 Rover P5B saloon in burgundy. Lovely car which i sold - never heard of it since. Similarly a 1971 Rover P5B coupe in classic Silver Birch over Zircon Blue. Did a lot of body work to it includinga respray and ran it for a few years in parallel with the other P5B. Again sold and never heard of again. Both P5Bs went to make way for the Silver Shadow and Turbo R and get a few bob to help pay for. |
