Default Fuel Gauge on Tourer reading empty

Hi all I have a 2006 Contemporary SE Tourer and the fuel gauge has stopped working since I reconnected the battery. I have tested the IPK display and that all works, the needle goes up and down. Tested the resistance on floats and all that checks ok. So why is it now working? There’s at least £50 of diesel in tank now. Any ideas.
