V6 leak
Has anyone had any issues with the engine temperature sender leaking on a V6? I have a small puddle of coolant in the engine 'V' and there looks to be a salt-like deposit around the sender area. The metal part of the sender itself also has a greenish colour to it - kind of like you'd get with a weepy copper pipe. The thermostat was replaced on the car a couple of years ago so is unlikely to be leaking.
Also, can the sender be replaced without having to start dismantling things? Thanks. |

Copper oxidises green just like iron oxidises red and aluminium oxidises white. The warm and sometimes damp environment under the bonnet is pretty much a guarantee that this will happen to at least some degree.
If you've got coolant in the V then have a look at that thermostat and associated pipework. Mop up all the damp stuff and then see if the dried up bits seem to lead anywhere. Remember that water runs in everything but straight lines!

I agree with Chris. Your thermostat housing ‘O’ ring could easily have started leaking after a short period of time and the evidence readily disperses increasing the possibility of an incorrect diagnosis. Simon
