I looked at Paul's but was banned from having 3 .
She's VERY well looked after and a credit to him. I look forward to hearing how the next 100K goes. Enjoy. Andy. |

Well that didn't last long! Got home from work today, and went out to have a good look over this 1.8t. Could see a small damp patch underneath the washer bottle area, so assume I've got a leak on there, but just to be on the safe side I thought I'd check the coolant level.
Well, previously fresh coolant that was in there when I checked when I picked up the car has now turned to a lovely shade of black, with a side order of mayonnaise on the cap! There's nothing under the oil filler cap, so I'm thinking it's only very early stages of the dreaded hgf, and it's gone just enough to let the oil pressure push a bit through into the coolant but not the other way through. I can't believe it! The car ran perfectly all the way back on the 240 mile trip, even through a couple of traffic jams it never overheated! But it has confirmed to me why I've never had or wanted a k series before! Hopefully the lack of overheating and no mayo under the oil filler cap means the head isnt warped, and it'll just be a gasket swap. I've seen before that it's supposed to be fairly straightforward on these engines, but how easy is it to do, or am I going to be better paying someone to do it? The car is too good to break with the mileage and condition, but I really don't want to be throwing money into yet another car! |

Get one of the MG mobile specialists. I use Russell Walsh who has replaced head gaskets on hundreds of cars, and his pricing is reasonable.

I think Pauls car has done more than 298k! Mileage discrepancy I recall!
Mind you I think over the years he has changed 99% of the car lol! |

298k is the accurate miles, apparently when he got it it was showing around 130k, but then he found out it had had the mileage lowered, so he got Phil davies to put it back to what it should be, going on the miles done since it was changed. But yes, I think the only part of the car that's done the mileage is the chassis and bodywork! Lol
