A Ford dealership near to me is currently selling 80% petrol cars. Diesel has dropped off the scale for owners looking ahead at resale values. JLR cars are at the expensive end with a huge potential for depreciation.

Sorry? Small turbo engines not efficient? I think you'll find they will be the future. Not sure I like it though...

So what is the short, medium and long term for Land Rover which in all fairness is a brand for mud plugging and the perfect fuel for that is diesel.

I'm from Solihull and admire JLR for much, but on this question I wish I knew its medium- term future. I'm concerned: the West Midlands has already lost enough manufacturing. I rode through Longbridge on Saturday and needed to orientate myself. There is nothing left.

This diesel backlash has been coming for a while, even before VW, and blaming ineffective product planning so easily on everyone else feels like a cop-out. I know it's hard to make money on small cars, but someone obviously is. Also, the F-Pace looks like an Evoque (surprise).

The industry can tell me as much as it likes how clean modern diesels are. They might be now, but they won't be by the time the car is on its third owner who can't afford to keep it clean because it's too tech. dependent.

We all see them everyday belching soot over the footpaths. The was an article just this morning about SO2 causing dementia. I don't know if it's true or not, but I bet it won't be 2040 before it's banned.

I'd agree about mud-plugging if enough ever saw a deep puddle, let alone mud. Since the end of the Defender, farmers seem to be buying Ford Rangers.

It's worrying. Lithium is harmful and batteries are difficult to recycle. I hope a more sustainable power source can be developed soon.

Scottish Government planning to ban diesel/petrol vehicle sales by 2032. Scotland's parliament does not have devolved control over vehicle standards or taxation so it's unclear how the nation will implement this policy before the rest of the UK.
That will help cross border relations!!

There are several old Top Gear episodes on YouTube which clearly state as far back as 1992 there were concerns over the dangerous levels of NOX produced by Diesel engines. This was overlooked in favour of outstanding mpg from diesel and as a result Governments started to promote diesel cars and started to tax it more. It was nothing short of a tax raising exercise and when added to a fuel duty accelerator it became a major source of income at budget time.
Despite the evidence, we were being poisoned by successive Governments.

Although the evidence now suggests otherwise.
