How long to change dampers
how long does it take to change the rear dampers on a diesel saloon?
I'm pretty sure the bottom damper bolts will come undone. From what I've read with car still on all 4 wheels, with jacking up, an hour a side? Looks a simple job, bottom bolt and a couple of nuts at the top mot Tuesday and dampers arrive Monday. Was hoping to get them today or tomorrow. I'm tempted to jack the car up Sunday and remove old dampers to save time macafee2 |

An hour should see both sides done. Handy if you have a spare set of hands for 5 minutes to pop the nuts back on the mounting nuts on the top mount bolts inside the boot. Easily enough done on your own if no help. Use a jack to hold damper in place when you come out to do up top nuts. And....don't over tighten them as they can snap off! ( the bolts on the top, mount not the damper bolt) Chris Last edited by Astraeus; 31st August 2018 at 17:55.. |

As above, 30 minutes each side.

When you remove the damper top mounts, the rubber seal is left in the body, this needs to be removed from the car, and refitted to the top mount. Once you are ready to refit the damper, this is pushed up through the hole in the body, and the barbs on the rubber seal hold the assembly in place until the nuts are refitted to the top mount. It should also be noted that if not fitted in this way, the seal will leak water into the boot, as the lower skirt of the seal won't be seated correctly Brian |

mixed news.
removed the rear wheels and checking the dampers again I don't think they are leaking. I had cleaned one in the last week and then used the car and no further sign of a leak. It may have just been dust that was wet but I have new dampers coming tomorrow so will just hang on to them. Bit frustrated with myself but had been worried about them for a while macafee2 |
