Just to say that I fitted one of these to my CDT Tourer about 2 years ago and it has worked well for me. The car performs as I would expect and the car returns 48-50 MPG on a regular basis (brim to brim measurement).

My understanding is that this part has been made available at a low cost as a result of VW putting pressure on Bosch due to warranty failures. Also, I believe that the part is not an exact replacement (the part number should end in "029" ?) but is very close in its spec.

I seem to remember that I checked the MAF readings when I fitted the sensor and they were reasonable - afraid I didn't keep any record of this though.

The other point to note is that this part is missing the correct latches so that the connector doesn't lock in place; I have not found this to be a problem as the connector is a tight fit anyway (although more recently I have secured it with Zip Ties just in case...). The part came in a Bosch Box although I have no way of verifying that it is genuine.

Please note that this is only my own experience – buy at your own risk!

I fitted one of these a couple of years ago (recommended on this forum by someone who seemed to know what he was talking about) as mine was knackered and had been disconnected by the previous owner – made a hell of a difference to driving without one.

However, BigRuss (who definitely DOES know what he’s talking about) assures me that it’ll make the car over-fuel by about 4% (think that’s what you said Russ!). Assuming that doesn't cause bore wash on a diesel as it would on a petrol engine, the car seems to run fine…

Anyway, if you do decide to replace the sensor or the complete unit, the air filter cover is completely impossible to replace, so you’ll have to throw the car away anyway.

No it doesn't, it underfuels, remember the Pierburg maf is for a Mercedes van and even with the mafam it's a compromise.

When Bosch mafs were a lot more expensive then it was a logical alternative, now that the prices have dropped to an acceptable level then why fit something that will cost you performance and possibly fuel

Before I'm accused of anything, I'm not knocking peoples choices here but the above statement is based on my findings looking at many many diesels with Pierburg mafs fitted, I have no interest in selling mafs only in pointing out the best option for owners, at the end of the day buy what you want, I know that I'd plumb for the Bosch maf every time.

Russ
