- O/S front wheel off
- best to remove arch liner completely (although you might manage just displacing the front/top section), drain and remove washer bottle
- it's tight but, wriggle your left arm up and over inside of wing and locate both bonnet cables
- loop strong rope around both cables
- get an assistant to depress the bonnet (just a gentle pressure to overcome the compression springs of both latch pins)
and, at the some time give a good strong progressive pull downward on the rope
It might take a few goes but with luck you should release both latches

This is not the sole method, someone else will be along to describe others

And when it's open Peter, give the release mechanism behind the grille a good clean in Gunk (or equivalent) and re-lubricate. Then it won't happen for another 17 years!

My 50 year old Triumph 2000 has never had this problem - 17 years - they don't make them like they used to!

Or my 57 year old Mini - with release mechanism conveniently poking through the grill
