Hi Simon, if you mean the fuel filter separating, I can confirm that isn't the case. I fitted the clip a few years ago and I just checked it's still firmly in place. Wouldn't have thought to check it without your suggestion, so thanks anyway. One more possible cause eliminated so inevitably at some point we'll do find the cause I hope.

The issue seems to have changed but I'd say the same problem is causing it still, so I've changed the subject of the first post
Anyway, I now have issues starting my car, and sometimes after starting, my car stalls again. It occasionally stalls when wanting to drive off. Most of the time, it just stalls without any specific error message. Occasionally, it'll mention "charge fault".
Sometimes my car starts right away after the initial stall, other times it takes multiple tries before the engine starts again. It can be lumpy when starting. Sometimes it helps to shut off the engine and then restart, after which the car runs fine as normal.
There are also times when my car starts without any issue whatsoever.
Anyway, I decided to check the fuel filter a bit closer so opened it up and had a feel around. That's when I found this

I have no idea what it is or where it came from, but I have a feeling it doesn't belong in my fuel filter. Maybe anyone here can enlighten me?
Edited to add: if this find doesn't belong in my fuel filter, could it be that wherever it came from is causing my issue?

Maybe time for an inspection of the fuel pump in case it's come from there.

How is this done Erik? When I edit my posts I'm not given that option.

Hi Simon
When you edit the first post of a thread, you can edit the title. It doesn't actually change the thread name, though, apparently.

Anything in particular I need to look out for when checking the fuel pump? Is it a robust unit or do I need to be more careful than with the fuel filter? Wouldn't want to accidentally damage it while having a look at it...

Ahh, it's possible only on the first post of your own thread, thanks Erik.

I would apply the same care as you did when lifting the filter canister. Mine has been reliable so I haven't had reason to look at it.

Just to complete the thread: I couldn't see anything wrong with the fuel pump, spark plugs etc seemed fine, and frankly, I was getting sick of it so bit the bullet and took my car into the shop.
Turns out the culprit is in fact a faulty throttle, so that's getting replaced now.
Anyway, thanks for the help and suggestions, Simon.
