Brake sensor query -wear pads CDTI

[Yorkshire GOC]

Posting for a friend with a 2002 e 116 bhp CDTI Tourer. He has tried to replace the wear sensor with no joy as the socket on the Eurparts new sensor does not line up and is not compatible with the one that is originally on the car. Can anyone point me to the part he needs. Currently an ABS warning light is on -so an MOT fail .

Tell him to use the old sensors and simply to link out the two wires which will extinguish the brake pad low warning lamp

I've done this on all of my cars, as I'm more than capable of looking at the pads through the wheel, and certainly don't need a warning lamp to let me know if the pads need to be replaced

Why? as I said, I have an eye on either side of my nose and I actually prefer to rely on what the Mk1 1 eyeball tells me about the state of braking components, rather than relying on two wires going open circuit

You have to remember I run cars without this feature, and have done so for 30+ years and in excess of one million miles, all without ever having any issues.

You can view the brake pads and discs through the wheels on all of my R40, and I do so every time I wash the car

No bother

If it gets him through the test, then he has the option and more importantly time to reinstate the sensors if he wishes.

These are normally replaced along with the pads, but only if the pads have worn sufficiently to break the sensor, none of my cars get anywhere near this point, but if the pads have been checked or replaced, there are no safety issues whatsoever in circumventing the warning lamp

I totally agree with Brian. The light coming on is for the idle people. How long does it take to check with your own sensors, your eyes. Although mine are connected, I still check every three months, which means I know how much pad is left. Something that the sensors do not let you know.
