Regarding the Message Centre IPK, perhaps there is a way involving perhaps the BMW scanner? I don't know anything about it but it can turn on the digital speedo so maybe it could be used to active the low coolant warning.

Would be interesting to try pin 10 on a very early message centre IPK e.g. from early/mid 1999.

Funnily enough, I was road testing an ECM this evening with T4 displaying the DDE live data overview, and the low coolant warning message flashed up on the message centre screen momentarily

Shame I don't know how or why, but the highline IPK has it lurking in there

I don't think I have tested the ipk with T4. When in T4 diagnostics is there an option to test individual lights or the message centre screen such as coolant sensor level?

As per Bolin post, I had a search around the web for BMW scanner and found lots of reference to enabling the light on low line ike, nothing so far on high line activation.

HI Gary.
Fascinating thread following with interest, will the internal washer stand up after being in the OAT for months years, or could it become weak over time ? I presume not if these have been used in the 1.8 through side wall.

The inner seal is silicone material which same as used for an alternative material in coolant hoses so should be up to the job. Standard hose material is EPDM.
The specifications for the sensor list the switch as suitable for coolant level systems.
What's the worst that can happen? It leaks and my warning light comes on at least I can tell when fluid level is low. Time will tell.....................................

Some 2,000 miles later and all working well.

No spurious lights coming on.

Coolant level is bang on and maintained at high mark of the tank.

I still check coolant at regular intervals as I would on any vehicle, but at least if there is catastrophic failure of a hose for example while driving the early low level warning light will be triggered early on giving a high level of protection from an overheat situation.

The low level warning light is right in the drivers eye line view and I believe superior to any other device such as monitoring a digital temperature gauge which is a distraction to concentrating on observing the road ahead.

Just wish I had the ZCS coding to allow the highline IPK enabled lamp too

Can I assume this will work for the V6?

I've tried your link for the sensor but nothing comes up.
