Default What have your archaeological investigations into the depths of your car found?

Well, all used cars have a history, and it can be found by the bits and pieces under the seats, in the door pockets and under the boot carpet for example, rather than just in the paperwork.

So far I've found:

Chocolate and sweet wrappers, broken pencil, 2 Bic biros, business card for a local University lecturer, golf ball and tee, 24 pence, some foreign coins (Turkish?!), odd loose screws and clips, a paperclip, a curtain rail clip, a woodlouse and two tiny slugs (nice.....).

Added to which there is a Bluetooth kit with a couple of unconnected loose wires and paint overspray on the LHR lamp.

Oh and plenty of water and dampness courtesy of the rear lamp gaskets!

What 'interesting' items have you found lurking in your car?

Ah, the classic leylandi! I've seen so many cars full of such tree bits, my Dad's car practically has a forest covering under the rear seat (mostly his fault too!). Thankfully my new car has been free from that.

Oh, but I did find two tiny slugs and a woodlouse, now added above. And plenty of boot mould.........

A friend of mine was told a story of a guy in Ballamena (N.I) who would, for some beer tokens, adjust the mileage on a vauxhall nova. On removing the clocks on one he found a note saying "oh no, not again"

Not a Rover but my 1956 Morris Minor split screen.
After a week I noticed a wet puddle behind the drivers seat. Told the seller and he said he knew nothing of it. A week latter I investigated and found news paper soaking up the water under the carpet.
Looked at the date on the papers and they were dated a week before he sold it to me. Got some money off.

That reminds me of the story of an American car which had a rattle, much to the annoyance of the lady owner. Her garage tried again and again to solve it, but couldn't find anything wrong. Eventually, the garage located the area of the rattle on a test drive, and completely stripped that part of the car, only to find a sealed welded box section. They cut it open, and discovered a nut with a label attached that said "Ah, so you found me at last!"
