Airbag Warning Light
Ok - so after a year of ownership and feeling smug that I didn’t have the airbag warning issue it’s finally caught up with me. Intermittent triggering of the light after driving for a few minutes for last couple of days, but now it comes on as soon as I start her up. Seems to have coincided with the recent cold snap.
I’ve run a scan with an SRS fault reader and it returns “80A - Right front airbag ignition circuit - resistance”. Can anyone confirm whether this is referring to the steering wheel airbag or the drivers seat airbag ( I don’t have curtain airbags )? I’ll probably start by looking at the under seat connector anyway but it would be nice to know which is actually referenced by that code. Also, will disconnecting the battery (as will be needed to work on the system) be sufficient to reset the SRS “brain” or will it be necessary to do anything else to clear any faults stored? |

Yep - go for the under seat connections - a quick clean with spray and a bit of vaseline then reconnect.. and if all is well the light will go out on its own.. so no need to disconnect battery.

The light will disappear as soon as the fault is rectified, might retain a "historic" fault in the system, someone more knowledgeable will clear that up. The underseat connectors are so notorious I'd go there first, if cleaning, disconnecting/connecting a few times doesn't solve it I'd have a word with cb750chris, think he's your nearest T4.

MGR South Devon isn't far away - around 32 miles:

Thanks everyone for your input. Guess I’ll start under the drivers seat then!
I’ve used Exeter Road Garage in Newton Abbott for quite a bit of work on my car and agree they are very good - just trying to avoid the 110 mile round trip for the time being if it’s just the dodgy connector issue. Pity it’s a bit cold and damp out there today |

Both my ZTs I ended up eliminating the connectors completely (sorry Brian!), also added about 6" of wire to airbag and pre-tensioner wiring so that moving the seats doesn't affect the wiring, solder and heatshrink.

Thanks all for your advice. Thankfully I found that just making and breaking the underseat connector on the drivers side together with a squirt of contact cleaner appears to have resolved the problem so- Happy Days!

airbag light on
hello everyone
just coming out of a failed MoT because of Airbag light permanently on I have a Facelift ourer and this problem happened in the past because of the seat connectors, which I regularly cleaned and disconnected/reconnected about 5 years ago I decided to change tehe front seats for electric/heating leather seats these came from a Mk1, and right after installation the red Airbag light came permanently on I didn't care much until...this became an MoT failure How can I solve this ? is there a difference in the number / connections of Airbags between Mk1 and Mk2 ? thanks |
