It seems postcodes are the major factor - my wife and I have 18 years no claims, no convictions between us, both in our late thirties and living in central Birmingham and we paid over £3000 for a two car policy including the Rover and a smaller car this year. Having had a baby since taking out insurance I rang to see if that would reduce the premium next year, naively assuming that parents with children would be considered to drive more safely than childless adults, only to be told that having a child will now INCREASE our premium! That's a fivefold increase on what our insurance cost last year when we lived in the middle of the countryside in the Welsh borders.
My wife was born outside the UK, so that automatically put the premium up since it's assumed that growing up outside the UK she is used to driving on the right and doesn't know British traffic rules. Despite having lived in the UK for many years and being born in a country that drives on the left. Any excuse... And please none of this "try Adrian Flux"/"try Peter Best"/"internet comparison websites" nonsense. I started off by phoning all the specialist firms recommended on this site and only one would even give me a quote and that was for £6000. Yes, £6000. Then I spent an entire Saturday on all the comparison websites before concluding that I weasn't going to go any better than £3000 even if it's more than the value of the cars we drive. |

We may have rubbish broadband but on of the perks of living in rural Norfolk is that my insurance is relatively cheap. Haven't renewed with the ZT yet but I'll be shocked if it's more then £300 however I have just done the Sterling for another year which was £210 fully comp with myself having full business cover as I'm a self employed I.T. Consultant.
I'm 35 and my better half is 33. Up until this year our insurance has been coming down every year however this is the first time in a while I've paid more then £200 to insure the Sterling Personally I blame the idiots who claim thousands for stupid little bumps. As far as I'm concerned if you come out of a crash with most of your limbs still on then you should just be able to claim for time off work and that's it!

Hi all
BB9 poscode (lottery) here. At renewal last sept I was 49 with Joanna as a named driver, £530 with admiral. for comparable cover (replacement car if you need 1 etc) they came in at £200 cheaper than the rest. Thanks to our "false claim" culture people in lancs, I pay through the nose ! way things are going, i will be loaded for "being " 50 this sept, sigh ! Regards Mark |
