Possible ignition switch malfunction
Hi Guys
My recently purchased 2003 75 Tourer has a problem with the ignition switch, I think. The problem is with the insertion of the key into the lock which needs a really hard shove, no amount of "jiggling the key" or rocking the steering wheel makes any difference. Once the key is in, the switch turns easily and operates as I would expect. So far I haven't done anything more than squirting some silicon lube down the keyhole which has made no difference whatsoever. Can anyone else suggest a remedy or is this usual for these cars? If it turns out that the lock needs changing, are new locks and keys easily obtainable, if so from where and at what cost? -John |

Hi John. Had the same problem earlier in year. A little WD40 into ignition barrel and left overnight cured it, no problem scince. (unless you have my habit of holding the key in your mouth when unloading the shopping ! Tastes yuck ! )

A friend had a similar problem, and had it fixed by oiling the lock barrell. Don't over oil or it will end up in the switch itself.
I think the lube you've used may be too thick to work down where you need it. |
