Ah! But you do not own one for “show and one with plenty of go”. There are quiet a few insurance companies that are happy to insure Banana, but getting insurance on the Bear is a different matter. Because of the supercharger.

When I first bought the Bear the online insurance quote was £6,600 for my Essex post code. For Allen’s post code in Saltash that dropped to £2,250. Take away the supercharger, still with Allen, and the quote dropped to £600.

Banana is no longer in her standard guise. She has modifications, which I list. That goes for the Bear as well.

So compared with your insurance mine will always be higher. Plus take in consideration my age and medical conditions.

I’m happy with the quotes as my insurance is also “all in”. All the extras like breakdown, lost keys, curtesy car, legal fees, personal insurance is all included in the price.

The Postcode Lottery and not the game, is the worst thing as I know that insuring a car anywhere in London is ridiculous.

Fair enough 'Bear' is the problem being supercharged but maybe then it would be better to try a Broker as it is a specialist vehicle.
Not all vehicles can be insured via the normal route especially when trying to get the best price.

The 'all in' approach the most expensive way of doing this, I have this but do it myself.
But so long as you're happy then that's the main thing.

I like the challenge every year of getting the best price for my car giving me the extras for as near as I can for free!

Cool 9 months today..................

........................................ I moved in to my new home. Not a day goes by that have regretted that decision, nor the decision to move down here. Oh! Sure I do miss Barkingside but as each day goes by so the memories fade a bit more. Still have no desire to return to London. I know I should, and I’m not using the current medical situation as an excuse.

I keep in touch with me brother in law, about every two weeks. Rarely hear from my two cousins in East London. Only one friend from Barkingside keeps in touch. None of my old neighbours have bothered to stay in contact.
But it’s a new life, with new friends for me from now on.

I’m still keeping busy. Yesterday I attended the St.Pirans festival in Redruth with the Cornish MGOC. We had a 10 car turn out. Then I drove home in Banana. Had a bite to eat, showered, changed and then drove up to Newton Abbot in the Bear to a birthday party. The plan was not to stay very long as the tiredness was creeping in. But as you do once you start chatting. So it was nearly 11pm before I left.

And it was chucking it down and blowing a gale. The drive home was at a steady pace. But the Bear got me home safe.
Today is a chill out day, need to top up my batteries. And there is always dust to be moved around. Going to try and clean my inside windows today, there’s only 16 to do. That should keep me busy.
Dinner is already on the go in the slow cooker, just a plain beef casserole. Will do some veg later.

All house improvements are completed with the exception of one, need a new banister rail fitted. Just the greenhouse to get sorted out and the garden replanted then that will be it. I’ll be settled in my perfect home surrounded by my memories.
Still discovering the area. Want to visit Tremanton Castle, only open 3 days a week. Then there is Ince castle, although not a proper castle just a large house built on the ruins of a castle. The house is not open to the public but the gardens are.

Breakfast meets to be set up with this club plus the Cornish MGOC meets to attend. I’ll be at the a National next month. Might get around to plan a trip up to Scotland but I’ve not made my mind up yet. Going to be attending the East Kiby meet in July. Other than that there’s not much planned.

On the downside of things, there’s always a downside. The estate of my late god son is causing all sorts of problems. I’ve stayed out of it as best as I can. Kept my opinions to myself although my god sons ex wife is trying her hardest to get me involved. The ex-wife has been charged by the police with fraud and theft of my god son’s estate. Seems she has opened some accounts in his name plus items of value have been removed from the house. Apparently with my authorisation. I do not have any authority over the estate.

My god sons brother has had to fly back from Brazil to deal with it all. It was him who got the police involved. I have had a couple of phone calls from the police to clarify the situation and may have to give a statement to my local cop shop.
Why do people have to be so greedy, a bit like the panic buy shopping that is going on currently.

Well that’s it for this months round up. Will keep the diary going and will start posting up a few more photos from time to time.

Thanks for reading and the kind comments.

Glad you are happy in your new home. I moved from Ashford near Heathrow, no way would I go back to London.

For some, when it comes to money the green eyen monster comes out and greed sets in. At times those that are as honest as honest can be get nothing while those that are the opposite get it all. At least you can have pride at being honest.

Cool I love my butchers......................

........................................ in the Tamar Garden Centre complex, they have a very nice shop to the side of the garden centre. Well, last Sunday I decided to go and get my monthly meat supply. Took Banana, to give her a run, and parked up close to the butchers. Went in and selected what I wanted whilst the assistant got my order ready. I went to the chiller cabinet and selected a couple of large gammon steaks.

There was a couple of things they did not have, so I knew I would be back at some point in the week. Paid for my shopping and left. Decided to go onto Tesco’s at Callington to get a few bits, no loo rolls wanted. Parked up in the car park at the furthest point away from the entrance. The store was virtually empty of people but plenty of stock was evident on the shelves.

Got my shopping and came away. Got home and parked Banana up. Unloaded the shopping and went in. Put everything away except I did not seem to have my gammon rashers. Blast! I’ll have to go back. Then the phone rang, then one thing led to another including finding that my access door to the garage was falling apart. So needless to say I never went back to the butchers till today.

Still had my receipt plus I wrote down what I had bought on Sunday. Took Banana again. Parked up and went into the butchers and before I could open my mouth the guvnor produced a bag with my gammon rashers. Written on the bag was, “Customer left these two items behind on the 8th at 11.22. Spent £31.25. And he has a Yellow Car”. Well pleased with that. And just to prove how grateful I was I bought the rest of the meat that I wanted.

Honestly pays.

Cool A year ago today....................

................................. the search began for me to buy a new home. Stop renting and own my own place. Signed on at one estate agent’s, Bradley’s, down the street in Saltash. They had 54 properties on there books in and around the area. So I put my name down to view them all.

I viewed about 20, then Allen mentioned that the bungalow opposite him was up For Sale. So I contacted the estate agents and went to view. Needed work, and as I found out later it would need a complete new roof including joists. New ceilings and completely redecorated. So lucky escape there.

The 3rd house I viewed, with Bradleys, is the one I’m living in. The one I bought. Happy with that.

Post 19th March 2009....................

..................................... today is the 11th anniversary of the day that would change our lives forever. For on this day in 2009 it would be the last time that my Val would ever step over the threshold of our home in Barkingside.

Noon marks the time when she collapsed on the forecourt of the Shell garage on the Woodford Avenue, Woodford Essex. Not a day goes by that I think of the what “if’s”. But nothing would have prevented the outcome. It would be another 21 months before the angels came to take her hand. She spent 10 weeks in the *Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel then a further 6 weeks in King George’s hospital in Goodmayes, before finally ending up in Meadow Courtnin the grounds of the hospital.

Normally on this day I would hide away, shut myself off from the world. Refuse to answer the phone, not open the door to anyone. I might venture out but only as far as the cemetery to lay flowers, talk to Val, then return home to the whiskey. I know all about depression, I know all about the Black Dog days, the suicidal thoughts. Been there and collected all the souvenirs. The love of my friends and relatives helped me through along with the doctors and nurses.

But it was ole Yellow that really pulled me out of the pit of despair, along with this club. I would put my name down for every meet I could. I spent more time away from home than in it. Got to see some fabulous cars and meet wonderful people. People I had never met before yet it felt that I had known them for years. And it was through one of these club meets that I was to meet Allen & Val and end up living in Saltash.

Not a day goes by that I do not forget my Val, I still talk to her every day. Ask her opinion. Ask her to keep an eye on my Mum, Dad and my Brother along with her Mum and Dad. Daft it may sound but it gives me a piece of mind that everything is ok up there.
What our parents would make of the world today does not bear thinking about.

Sorry to waft on but just thought I would let you all know why this day is so special to me.

Thanks for reading and the kind comments.

*This is the 10 weeks that my book is based on. The time that Val spent in the Royal London. The book is written but not going to be published at the moment.

Daft, no way, our private time with those departed is special, nobody else can share that. Your character is what has pulled you through and I thank you for being such a valuable member of this Club. Share your comments as they will inspire others. Twelve years since I lost my Judy and I regularly voice my comments to her.

Bob,
You welcomed me into the club, at Clandon Park, last year; and we've met again at Frimley.

It's good that the club is important to you, but more importantly is your obvious positiveness.

I don't drink whiskey, but I'll raise my glass this evening.

Mike

Cool You never think it's.......................................

................................................ going to happen to you. You hear about the death toll constantly rising, and I was thinking if I might have known any of them. Did our paths cross at some point in the past? Then. Wham! You get not one but two phone calls in a space of twenty minutes. Two very special friends in hospital with this virus. And this morning I get the news that one has passed away.
I'm in shock, totally devastated. It has not sunk in. My neighbour from Barkingside. We grew up together. One of the family. Always in one and others homes.

And the second person is my late god sons' brother, Roger, who only flew back to this country last month to sort his brothers ex-wife and her criminal actions.
He said he would stay on because of the lock down to sort everything out. And now he is fighting for his life. He is in Guy's hospital so in the best place. And i cannot visit.

My god sons daughter has been tested positive but has been in quarantine in the house. Her partner and there baby were tested and found to be clear so they are staying with friends till the all clear is sounded.
I do not know how Roger became infected.

So my god sons ex-wife has been charged with breaking and entering, theft and criminal damage. Plus her two accomplices have also been charged. One of them told the police where most of the stolen stuff was being stored. So almost everything has been recovered. Some stuff has been sold on and some bits the ex-wife destroyed. Why? I don't suppose we will never know. The good thing is that she has pleaded guilty to all the charges. Currently out on bail, awaiting a court appearance.

Been here almost 10 months now, and nearly two years in Cornwall. I doubt very much that I will ever return to London. The only reason I may go back is when my niece gets married, was supposed to be in September this year but I think they have postponed till next year. I'm in constant touch with Michael, so I know that he is safe.
My two cousins were selling up in East london and moving out to live in Harold Wood in Essex, but that's all on hold till we get the all clear. Cousin Keith is with the Met Police, so is a key worker. Cousin Christine is retired. Her son Richard is a railway engineer so is still working.

My two other friends in Kent are both in the Police. John is also in the Met Police but works as a school liaison officer. But with no school work to be done he is out on the front line. Lisa can work from home as she is with the Kent Police but as a civilian. So her work is handled by computer.

I've been out in the garden this morning but my mind kept wandering off, leaving my brain behind. Did manage to cut the grass and done a bit of weeding. So sitting here writing this with a pint of cider as company, pondering on what to have for dinner.
I have been going for a walk most days to get some exercise. Not today but will start again tomorrow.

Stay safe my friends.
