Default No "beep" on selecting reverse / Sensors not operating

I have a Rover 75 Connoisseur SE V^ Auto 2497cc petrol 2003

I am sending this thread again as I am not sure it went first time.

An irritating problem. I no longer hear a "beep" when selecting reverse gear and the bumper sensors have stopped working. The reversing lights do come on. I have switched on the ignition and selected reverse gear. There in no "clicking" from any of the sensors. Has anyone any idea what the problem is?

If your reverse lights are working then the switch is ok in the gearbox, i'd say it could be the actual parking sensor control box.

If your getting no sound it could be the sounder in the IPK or separate sounder, or parking ecu.

Or even a bit of corrosion in the wiring somewhere--

Sometimes at the back near the sensors.

Thanks for reply. I have checked if I get a tone when I leave the lights on and that is not working now also. Have you any solutions?

I had same problem with no sound from lights on, or reverse, it was the sounder itself was the fault. Mine is a facelift with sounder behind clocks,if yours is a mk1 it is located somewhere under rear shelf.

The sounder in the IPK has failed and as yours is an 03 car it all most certainly provides the sounder for the reversing sensors as well

Contact Klarzy on here via PM and he can sort it out for your

I'm posting this as a future reference.

If you've had a continuous beep, indicating a problem with the sensors or the wiring and you have no sound at all after addressing the issue, then first have your car checked by a T4 or TOAF to make sure the reversing beep isn't simply disabled as it was in my case.

Default Reversing Sensors Disabled

An interesting post. Did you find how the system had been disabled.
