Default Oil and filter Change findings

Chaps

I have just got around to the first oil change in my ownership..
I done it myself and opted for a 5/40w fully synthetic. She took all 7 litres.

The previous oil was black but up to the max.
Unsure what oil was in there?

The trip computer was also stating it was some 6000 miles past service interval so it was surely needed! ***In fact how do I reset the service trip?

So on my first drive I noticed the engine was quieter..
I noticed it seemed to driver smoother.. IE easier revving.
It seemed a tad more powerful..
And It also had a quieter exhaust note? As before the oil change the exhaust had a raspy note/ more boost? As if it had a sports box or maybe a remap etc... Now that has gone..

Anyway

Rob

Strange you should say that as I too changed from 10/40 semi to 5/40 full synthetic last week and up till know it seems altogether quieter and smoother.

Your new batch will be equally black in a few weeks. It means the oil is doing what it's designed to do.

You could try the bent paperclip method, but you'd be better using a resetter gizmo from eBay. They're cheaper than a fish and chip and won't singe your eyebrows (like a paperclip could).

I think that applies to all oil changes in my experience.

But that is interesting.

Just done a change on my other car - an MG ZS diesel. It sounds much better after the change - I think it'd been a while as the filter was actually rusted!

Seems pointless to neglect changes for the amount it costs, then again the chap I purchased it from didn't seem particularly 'car savvy'.
