breakdown Insurance - hoops to jump?
I'm coming up to the renewal of my breakdown cover. It surprises me that every year I renew there are even more hoops to jump through. This year I notice that Rescue my car will only tow you up to the value of your car., Or your car has to be under 21 years old when you take out the cover.
Has anyone got good cover for a reasonable price? I don't like these companies that stipulate you have to have been to Tim Buk Two and back before they will insure you. |

I'm currently with auto aid, they have two types of policy to cover:
the car OR you. I have the policy for me and the wife is a free addon. covers us for any car we are driving ( If you decide to go ahead be sure to tick the over 16yr old car box) Around £75 last year IIRC https://secure.autoaidbreakdown.co.uk/join.aspx

Another vote for Auto Aid from me. I have been with them for many years (recommended by Martin Lewis). Have only needed them once but the service I received was 1st class.
Covers everything from home start to roadside recovery with any destination and hotel cover if needed. |

i've just taken out a policy with Start Rescue insuring me in any vehicle as driver or passenger, national roadside recovery to home or chosen destination for £76. Reviews seem ok, time will tell.

I’m also with Autoaid. Covers the two of us in any car. All of our vehicles are over 15 years, so we have to pay the higher premium, but have used them twice in four years. Well worth it for the peace of mind.

Would this cover another car owned by me or my wife? It is unlikely we will be out separately and break down at the same time. Also reading the small print after the 1st of March 2023- I'm a bit concerned about the "any location" recovery!

the wife and I have a joint personal cover policy with the AA for the last 3 years or so. Have had to use it 3 times and never had any issues. They recovered redfive a few weeks ago due to a failed in tank fuel pump.
Can't remember how much we paid, think it was around the £130 mark but ours renews around black friday time every year so I just cancel every year and start a new policy on a black friday deal every time. |

For some years I've been with RH (annual cost around £260) that also includes recovery. When I ran a Stag they recovered me but I've not had to use them for the V6. They've also covered my son on a temp basis for a week at no extra charge.

Open up a nationwide flex plus account. £13 a month (last time I looked) gives you travel insurance, phone insurance and vehicle breakdown/recovery covering both partners in the case of a joint account.
Bit of a bargain I'd say. |
