I once asked a cop who was booking me why they wrote in pencil.

When i suggested it was so thier notes would match later he took great offence and told me to be ON MY WAY

I always kept a spare pocket book, one for everyday use and another in case I had to go to court to give evidence, which was impeccability written up, of course
