I'm taking another view here.

If a passenger has no ticket, lost it, been issued the wrong kind or is a possible fare dodger or whatever, then there are procedures in place for dealing with these. I don't think asking a passenger for assistance in removing another passenger will be within the procedures or if asked by a passenger, then this should be refused by the ticket collector. If the ticket collector suspects he is a fare dodger (as was the case here) then this becomes a matter for British Transport Police (BTP) and the passenger may be charged with Ticket Fraud. In situation like this, always fall back to the set procedures and don’t take things into your own hands.

I have a friend who is a train driver. If for any reason the train is late, this incurs penalties, and often disciplne procedures against train staff so I would imagine the ticket collector would not want to call the police. It was Friday night, just outside Edinburgh so they would have waited a while for BTP and this would hold the train up, and every other train on the same line.

As for the passenger, who ‘helped’, be altruistic at your own risk!

Im sure if the big guy knew he was being recorded, he would have used the that wonderful scottish phrase . . . "Come on, get aff"

Default Simple remedy.

If the big guy gets charged with assault i want the yoot charged with fare dodging and conduct likely to cause a breach of the peace.

Tis the only FARE result . Lol.

If you listen carefully (or watch one of the subtitled versions of the clip) you will hear the conductor use that exact line

Didn't work though............

I was just about to post something similar.

Why get involved in the first place as the little guy didn't seem to be violent.

there,s 2 ways of looking at this and that,s 1 from the moral view and 2 the legal view. morally what the big guy did was correct, threw a fare dodging twit off the train gave him few bruises on the way and allowed it to do it,s journey everyone home on time for dinner. legally tho he hasn,t a leg to stand on as it was an assault, the conducter probably could be disciplined by train company as company makes out their trained to handle this(usually a leaflet giving do,s and dont,s not unarmed combat). it,s a shame somebody who steps in to help out another do their job could face charges because of some little geek that wants to make a name for himself and earn some compo, he,s the one that should get barred from train travel for abusing train staff. give the big guy 5mins with the toerag.

If everyone all of a sudden decided that it was OK not to pay for things where would we be as a society?

As at least 2 of the other passengers have said they would have paid for his ticket except for the fact that he had such an attitude. Even the bloke himself has said that he doesn't condone the way he behaved.

I dare say that had he acted differently the conductor would have been far more lenient in return however given his behaviour I think the only option left was for him to be removed from the train.

As for him being a diabetic and leaving his bag on the train I'm sure in the video you see another passenger throwing out to him.
I'm sorry but what absolute rubbish to condone violence.

( For something so TRIVIAL !!! )

Guess you would 'kill' for something a little more serious.

My view too.

The fact of non payment should NEVER result in violence.

Such a trivial incident should be dealt with in the manner already set up for it.

You others who think violence is correct would no doubt have been in the cheering crowds on hanging or guillotine day many years ago.

Our brain power should be used to overcome our instinctive reaction and feeling that we are 'personally being robbed' by this tow-rags behaviour.

Do something about it, YES. Chuck the culprit about, NO.

MERRY XMAS and good will to all men. ( Go on, give it a try. It'll make you feel good. Lol )

Police. We stopped this motorist and asked him for his documents.

You've got a way with words, Colvy. As for me, I'm just worried about Eric Pickles.
