Default Connect fbh to webasto thermo test

Could anyone give me a heads up on how to connect an early webasto to thermo test?
The one I am trying to test is the early 'C' type which i am firing by +ve to pin 1 on the multiconnector.
This one is not on my car. After experiencing the joys of the fbh on my car for a few years i decided to fit one on my boat to run a couple of radiators.
All was joy until the last time i was down
It was working fine and i turned it off as normal. Since then it has refused to start and has been completely dead. No combustion fan pump or anything!
I have checked both the main supply and the supply to pin one and both checkout.
Thinking it may have locked out i followed the disconnection/reconnection sequence recommended to no avail.
Today i brought down a vag kkl adaptor connected as follows:

Webasto multiplug 2 to pin 7 diag
Diag pin 5 to batt negative
Diag pin 16 to positive

I have tried with and without pind 7 & 8 linked

When i try to connect to the heater i get the message adaptor not connected.

I have tried connecting vis W bus and automatically
In thermo test.

Does anyone have any ideas what could be wrong?
Or perhaps i cannot connect with this adaptor.
It is getting a bit chilly here now!

Default

I took apart my adaptor this morning and saw that there was no connection on pin 5 so i changed the battery negative to pin 4.
I have tried the Rover protocol and tried an automatic search but still get the report 'unable to establish connection'
I have just noticed that when doing an automatic search i get the report 'selected com port can not be used' on a number of units including Rover C/Z
My adaptor is on com 10 perhaps i need to change the com port???
