rover 75 saloon and mgzt 190

Default no fuel.to engine rover75 1.8 t

no fuel getting to engine ,have checked for filter separation,replaced o ring and fitted clip,no joy.have fitted new pump,no joy,have replaced crankshaft sensor ,no joy, checked fuses under bonnet and behind glove box,have checked fuel curoff is depressed,plent of fuel in tank but not getting to engine.im completley out of ideas.would appreciate advice.only had car 3 months so not very familiar with it,have haynes manual but still stuck.

At the end of the fuel rail there is a shraeder valve that can used to monitor fuel pressure. In theory when you turn the ignition on the pump should prime for 10 seconds or so. A tyre air pressure gauge may give you a reading if used carefully. Expect around 3 - 4 Bar.

I suppose it depends on exactly how much there is. Is it all in the nearside of the tank? If you had FFS and have been repeatedly trying to start the engine, the fuel eventually becomes concentrated in the nearside. The loss of delivery pressure (FFS) stops the internal venturi pumps from balancing the fuel levels.This leaves the pump pickup cup empty so no fuel gets to the engine.


Can you hear th pump running? If so I'd suggest adding a gallon of fuel through the filler neck.

Sounds like a much more sensible approach. I would have suggested listen for the pump running as a first step myself.

Completely disagree don't exaggerate. This is no different to using a Fuel pressure gauge as was intended via the schraeder valve, the worst that can happen is the user junks his gauge.

Really unsafe is if they smoke during this procedure.

Mmmm, I wouldn't fancy 'junking' a £25 air pressure gauge, using the simple old fashioned cheap bar gauge I can visualise fuel spraying everywhere - again, not ideal.

Fuel inertia switch tripped ? Also have heard of non starts due to failure of the under bonnet master fuse.

checked inertia switch and fuses.where is master fuse?

In the bonnet fuse box - its the really big fuse - cant miss it - have been reported non start issues when it has failed/failing - also on the fuses you have checked clear the connections and check the connections under the fuse box to the starter etc - they have been known to chafe and cause non starting.

Also a classic non start on the 1.8t beside the crank sensor is a dirty spade connector to the starter motor worth a check if not done and give it a clean.
